SpectorSoft has announced the release of Spector Pro mac 2009, a monitoring and surveillance software package for the Mac. It costs $99.95 for a one-user license.
Based on the Windows software of the same name, Spector Pro Mac is aimed at parents who want to make sure their kids don’t find trouble online, employers who need to keep tabs on employee computer activity or minimize liability, and others who might need to keep watch of computer activity in their home or office.
The software takes “screen snapshots” of what’s going on on the Mac and with any Internet activity. It also keeps detailed logs of Web site visits with actual addresses; records and reviews instant messaging made with iChat, AIM, MSN, Yahoo and Adium; details e-mail activity with apps including Apple Mail, Microsoft Entourage, Mozilla Thunderbird and other POP/SMTP clients; lets you track user activity; and provides a remote viewer you can use either from a Mac or PC to watch, in realtime, what’s happening on a remote Mac.
Spector Pro mac 2009 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later, runs on an Intel or PowerPC-based Mac, and requires 5-20MB of disk space per day for recordings, depending on settings.
